Lesson 3 (6th-7th Years)

Kira was standing on the patch of grass, smiling with her face turned to the rare sun ray. Nature was beginning to wake up and it was beautiful to watch. If Kira hadn't been so busy with planning lessons and taking care of grounds for two schools, she'd spend her days just watching plants grow and enjoying the sunshine. It was getting warmer too, at Salem more significantly than Hogwarts, but it was pleasant everywhere.

The only damper on spring was the kidnapping of students and when Kira wasn't worrying about the creatures on the grounds, she was worrying about Diem and when she was at Salem, she kept checking up on her daughter. She felt incredibly sorry for the kids that were kidnapped and for their parents and friends and all in all, it was a horrible thing.

As it so happened, Kira was standing next to huge slabs of meat, hung on tree branches and the smell was making it a bit hard to enjoy the sunshine. One of the slabs was on the ground and around it were two skeletal horse-like creatures, eating the meat. One of the Thestrals moved to stand next to Kira and she reached out to pet him fondly.

Thana walked down to her lesson, it was with Professor Kira. She walked down and noticed the Thestrals as well as the Professor. "Hello there Professor Kira" she said. "Well looks like we are going to have an invisible lesson" she told the Professor, only people who had seen death could see a Thestral. "But hopefully we will have more than two people this lesson " she said, remembering the last one.

Thana always had a soft spot for animals, humans she couldn't care less about. Animals however she loved, she always had.

Shiva made her way towards Care of Magical Creatures, she was a sucker for creatures and always loved hearing about the ones she hasn't heard of before and loves learning more about the ones she has heard of. The Hufflepuff arrived and smiled. "Morning" Shiva greeted. She remembers the Ravenclaw as a Prefect and the Professor as a woman who loves dragons.

The last lesson of Care of Magical Creatures had come around and Josh was happy to know that soon he was getting two months of peace and quiet. His parents could at least leave him alone for long periods of time so that he could just do what he wanted to do.

Heading down to the clearing, Josh noted the skeletal creatures from a distance and had to say that for once the professor had picked something... vaguely interesting. Moving towards the professor, Josh watched the creatures moving around. They were unusual, the way they moved, the way they looked. He was quietly interested, but not openly so. "Professor." He acknowledged the witch in charge, though it wasn't with any kind of eye contact as he watched the animals moving around.

October was in her last year and this was her last lesson before she graduated, this just meant that when she graduated she was actually going to have to mingle and try and make friends. The Hufflepuff wasn't used to that yet, she mostly stood alone and the only other person she let besides her father was Hercales and he has no memories. She got to the class and waited for it to begin.

Kira greeted the students as they arrived, smiling at everyone. She knew some of them would be graduating in a few months and it was weird to know she'll probably never see them again. Oh well, life goes on. When it looked like nobody else was coming, the Professor clapped her hands together to get their attention.

"As you can see, or maybe not, we'll be talking about Thestrals today. Can anyone tell me something about them? One answer per student, please." She motioned towards the skeletal beings and wondered how many of her students could actually see them. Not too many, hopefully.

Listening as the class started, for once Thana was genuinely interested. After her stint at leaving she had work cut out for her, or so people thought.

Thana watched as no one else have an immediate answer. " Thestrals are horse like creatures that can only be seen by someone who was witnessed death first hand" Thana replied, she could see them. She doubted many others here would be able to.

Josh had been slightly distant watching the thestrals, though his mannerisms didn't show it, Josh was quite interested. It did, however, mean he missed the question to begin with, though the answer given was the most obvious.

"Thestrals are considered dangerous by the Ministry, however, they can be tamed and used for magical transport. This is considered illegal, under the International Statute of Secrecy laws." Josh added to the Ravenclaw's answer, not looking away from the horses.

Kira nodded at the two answers, telling the students they each get five points. Then she asked them all to carefully approach the skeletal horses and could those that could see them please help those who can't. She laid out meat for the Thestrals so they wouldn't get impatient and then stood back and watched as the students carefully worked.

Time flew by while the students got to know the skeletal horses. Kira helped them if there was any trouble, though it all went quite smoothly.

"That's all the time we have today. Good luck with your exams and have a nice summer! To all those who are graduating, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours. Goodbye!"
