Lesson 2 (4th-5th Years)

Kira was standing near the Forrest, wearing a coat, woolen gloves and a hat and about half a dozen sweaters. It was incredibly cold and for the first time in her career, she wished she had a classroom instead of being out in the open.

There were a few Aethonans standing around, some of them stretching their wings, some of them eating the hay that was set out for them. As Kira waited for the students to arrive, she admired the chestnut coloured beauties and hoped the students will be nice to them. It'd be a shame if someone had to go to the Hospital Wing because a winged horse kicked them.

The weather was cold and Lucy was all rugged up as she made her way through the castle grounds to the area where they would have their Care of Magical Creatures class. As her eyes fell in the Aethonans standing around, all thoughts of the bitter cold were wiped, and she grinned "Winged horses?" she said happily "I love horses!"

Cassidy preferred the heat and warmth of summer as opposed to the harshness of winter. Winter was too dark, too solemn for her liking. It was downright depressing. But as she made her way to the Care of Magical Creatures area, and saw the winged horses, her day brightened considerably "Hey Professor," she greeted.

This was another class she was looking forward too, Care of Magical Creatures. This class was taught perfectly and it always excited her to see what kind of lesson would be taught each time she came back. The blonde got to the class and saw her friend Cassidy, Lucy, and Professor Reid, she knew this was a good start out, the class was always piled with students so she wouldn't be surprised if anyone showed up late. "Hi Professor" Alyson greeted. Alyson then waved at Cassidy and sent a smile to her.

From a distance he could see all girls plus the Professor, he was stunned to say the lease but he stayed calm and focused. Technically he was already taken by Tristan who was stuck with him and vice versa. He had looked into the mates of the werewolves and saw that the mates thing was for life and no one could change the fate of that. Before he knew it he was with the rest of the class waiting for the lesson to begin.

Pulling her thick winter coat tighter around herself, she continued towards the allocated meeting place, wondering when winter would finally end. As much as she enjoyed the snow and skating on frozen lakes or ponds, the cold always got to her. If it weren't for her abilities, her nose would have been a bright shade of red and her skin pale, but - and it was one of the times that she was most thankful for her powers - she always kept them looking normal: lightly tanned and soft in appearance. Although CoMC was not a subject necessarily required to achieve her ambition, she enjoyed it nevertheless, and taking it had not been a tough decision.

As she approached the group of people, her eyes were drawn to the winged horses hanging out around them and her eyes lit up. Yes, Brooke Walters was on the journey back to normal, and it helped that the boy would not be in this class, for he was a year older than her. "Hello Professor Reid," she said with a smile before turning her attention to the nearest horse. "Oh, he's so beautiful!" she commented softly, wanting to reach out and touch it, but knowing she had to wait for instructions.

After the utterly embarrassing episode last lesson Louise was reluctant but determined to try again, she just hoped that they were done and dusted with dragons. She huffed and wrapped her cloak around her, charming her clothes with one more warming spell and headed outside, after pacing a rut int he entrance hall, and made her way over the lawns to the paddocks where the lesson would be. She smiled seeing not dragons but winged horses instead. They were a might less terrifying but still looked quite powerful. She hadn't been a big fan of horses but she appreciated they were very beautiful creatures, and the wings just added tot heir appeal.
She stepped in with the other student's and watched the creatures for a while.

"I love horses!"

"Hello, Miss Waters. That's great!" Kira grinned happily. It was always a pleasant surprise, when students were excited about the lessons. "Hello Miss Young, Miss Montez. I hope you're dressed warmly, it's unbelievably cold today." she commented with a smile, happy that they turned up despite the freezing cold.

"Welcome, Mr. Lassiter, Miss Walters." the witch sent a kind smile to the Gryffindors and another to Louise, who came last. "Miss Grey, hello. I'm terribly sorry about the last lesson, dear. I should've given a warning, or something." Honestly, Kira was surprised that Louise showed up, pleasantly so, of course.

"Right, now." the Professor clapped her hands together, though the mittens robbed the action of desired effect. "Who can tell me something about winged horses? What breeds there are, what they eat, where they live, that sort of thing. One answer per student, please."

Ryan looked around to see who would answer the Professors question, he didn't really want to be noticed here but then again he knew eventually he'd have to participate in classes. The Gryffindor wasn't usually used to being around this many people, well he was since this school involved a lot of students but still. When Professor Reid waited for an answer, he hesitantly began to speak. "There are four different types of winged horses. Abraxan, Aethonan, Granian, and Thestral."

She listened as the Gryffindor boy, Ryan, she thought his name was, put forth his answer about the different breeds of winged horses there were. The most interesting had to be the Thestral breed, in Lucy's opinion. "Thestrals are black, and possess the power of invisibility," she piped up. She opened her moth to go on, but decided to let some others answer.

She listened as the others answered the question, and was waiting for some others to speak up, though it seemed no one else was going to. So she decided that it was her turn and she began to talk about the Abraxan species "I know that abraxans are known for their strength and power," she spoke up "And they're built pretty big too," she added.

Kira listened to the three students as they gave their answers and nodded. "5 points to each of you. Thestrals can, in fact, only be seen by people who've seen someone die. That's why they're considered unlucky and bad omens, especially in Divination. They're fascinating creatures, though, capable of flying long distance, they're strong and quite gentle, if you're nice to them." The Professor explained.

"Here we've got Aethonans. They're very popular in Britain and Ireland, it's why I was able to get them for this lesson. I want you guys to groom them and then, if anyone wants to, ride them. You have to know, though, that in order to ride them, you have to get their trust, you've got to be nice to them."

She moved to the closest horse and picked up a brush from a box on the ground. "This one's called Lady Arwen. I'll show you how to groom them and then you can start." Kira demonstrated proper brushing, all the while muttering comfortingly to the horse. Once she was done, she smiled at her class and motioned for them to begin.

"If anybody's afraid or they don't want to do this, you don't have to."
