Lesson 3 (4th-5th Years) Empty
PostSubject: Lesson 3 (4th-5th Years)   Lesson 3 (4th-5th Years) EmptyTue Jul 08, 2014 6:17 am

Kira was standing on the patch of grass, smiling with her face turned to the rare sun ray. Nature was beginning to wake up and it was beautiful to watch. If Kira hadn't been so busy with planning lessons and taking care of grounds for two schools, she'd spend her days just watching plants grow and enjoying the sunshine. It was getting warmer too, at Salem more significantly than Hogwarts, but it was pleasant everywhere.

The only damper on spring was the kidnapping of students and when Kira wasn't worrying about the creatures on the grounds, she was worrying about Diem and when she was at Salem, she kept checking up on her daughter. She felt incredibly sorry for the kids that were kidnapped and for their parents and friends and all in all, it was a horrible thing.

As it so happened, Kira was standing next to huge slabs of meat, hung on tree branches and the smell was making it a bit hard to enjoy the sunshine. Eying the meat hungrily were three beautiful Hippogriffs and the Professor shook her head at them; they were fed just a few minutes before. The meat was there to keep them busy instead of attacking students.

Gina walked casually down to Care of Magical Creatures. As usual she was in no hurry to get to class, and her shirt sleeves were already rolled up. She'd have done the same with her trousers too, but it was simply too much effort first thing in the morning.

As the clearing came in to view, Gina noticed the Hippogryffs and looked at the professor uncertainly. Was she completely insane bringing three of those things out in to the open. The Hufflepuff just looked at them timidly. This was not okay, not okay at all.

Alyson made her way towards the class for Care of Magical Creatures. The Gryffindor loved this class so much because it was outside her element and that was something she quite enjoyed. The blonde girl arrived and saw a Hufflepuff she has never seen before and the Professor. "Morning Professor" Alyson greeted kindly.

"Morning Miss Vise, Miss Montez." Kira smiled at the girls as they arrived. The Hufflepuff looked a bit apprehensive and Kira was really happy to see that. Hippogriffs could be really dangerous and it was important for students to acknowledge that and not just go charging at them.

She motioned towards the mighty beasts. "As you can see, we'll be talking about Hippogriffs today. Can either of you tell me anything about them? But, please don't say everything, give each other a chance."

Lucy hated being late. Absolutely hated it. She had been up late doing homework, and balancing her responsibilities as prefect, and naturally, had slept in and skipped breakfast. Today was not her best day, clearly. She hurried down to where CoMC was held "Sorry I'm late Professor," she apologised "Overslept," her eyes fell on the hippogriffs and grinned "I'll tell you something I know. You never, ever insult them because they will attack," she answered.

Cassidy din't like being late at all. It made her feel incompetent. But as she arrived at the area where CoMC was held, her mood was brightened. Hippogriffs had to be one of her favourite magical creatures. She saw that, thankfully, the Slytherin prefect was also late, meaning that she wasn't the only one, and that was something of a comfort to her "Sorry I'm late Professor," she mumbled as she set down her bag.

What was wrong with her today? Louise was still wondering how she had been late to every lesson so far this week. She sighed and straightened up when she reached the grounds where Care of Magical creatures was taking place and smiled at the professor and the other students. At least she wasn't too late for this lesson, thank Merlin, besides she wasn't the only one it seemed. After a quick apology Louise looked over at the Hippogryphs and smiled, they looked quite stunning, but she knew better than to assume they'd have personalities to match, well at least not to people who didn't approach them correctly so she stayed still within the group.

Gina looked to the other girl with her when the question was asked, hoping the witch knew something, because Gina had not read up on these things. Apparently she was not going to answer, but just as Gina was trying to think of something, a Slytherin hurried to the class, sprouting an answer. Respect, right, Gina could work with that...

"It... is a combination of an eagle and a horse..." Gina attempted, looking at the beast and trying to place the animal as best as she could.

Tristan strolled into class late and sat in the back of the classroom. SHe heard the topic of discussion: Hippogriffs. She had had a run in with a hippogriff in the woods last night, nasty creatures. "Dont piss them off." SHe mumbled under her breath.

"I'll tell you something I know. You never, ever insult them because they will attack,"

Kira smiled at the three latecomers and nodded to Lucy. Two other students, a Hufflepuff and a Slytherin supplied their answers and she nodded at both of them, as well. "Correct, ladies, take five points each.

'Indeed, Hippogriffs are incredibly proud creatures. When you approach them, you have got to maintain eye contact and bow, as that shows you respect them and won't hurt them. If they bow back, you have the permission to go closer. If they don't, slowly back away and then run." Kira explained, hoping that everybody understood just how important this was. "Under no circumstances are you to insult a Hippogriff or approach them without the proper procedure." she added, for emphasis.

"They eat small insects, birds and small mammals. When I feed the, I usually bring them meat, as they can find insects by themselves and we're trying to lessen the kill in the Forrest." she told her students and then threw pieces of meat towards each of the glorious beasts.

Then she turned back to the small group and smiled. "If you'd like, you can each try to approach a Hippogriff. Again, they will maul you to d- they will injure you if you insult them, so please be careful. I know how to calm them down if anything happens, but I'd rather everyone be safe. If any of you don't want to do this, you don't have to."

Tristan got up from her seat and smiled. "May I try, professor?" She stepped up to their teacher and looked at the creature. She saw the feathered beat and smiled at it. It wasnt that scary looking. But she knew that there was more than meets the eyes when it came to creatures. She didnt look dangerous, but she could rip your throat out if she wanted to. She stepped a bit closer to the Hippogriff.

Georgina let out a sigh of relief when her answer had been correct, Merlin that had been a stab in the dark, but it had paid off. The explanation that came after was relatively boring, but Georgina had learnt the knack of at least looking like she was listening to the professor. It wasn't the older witch's fault, after all, that Georgina couldn't find this engaging. She longed for her Muggle school, not this place that didn't have a maths book handy in any class!

When they were told they could move closer to the potentially ferocious animals, Gina just looked at the professor like she was some kind of insane. Go near it? Gina just stayed where she was, eyeing the animals with quite a distinct look of fear in her eyes. Nope, here was good, here meant there were other people between the beasts and herself.

Here, she had a head start!

PostSubject: Re: Lesson 3 (4th-5th Years)   Lesson 3 (4th-5th Years) EmptyThu Aug 07, 2014 8:08 am

Shawn knew as soon as he woke up that he was running terribly late. The sunshine streaming through his dorm window was farther along the wall than it usually was. Last night he'd had a killer migraine that had kept him up. He rushed to get on his uniform and grabbed his things, not bothering with brushing his teeth or things of that nature. Bounding down the stairs he saw nobody else moving, and he put flew through the common room before making his way towards the grounds.

Before too long the young Hufflepuff had found his Care of Magical Creatures class already in progress, and he stopped to catch his breath for a minute before walking over to Professor Reid. Tardiness was not something that he made a habit of and he was mad at himself for it. "Sorry I'm late, Professor Reid. There's no excuse for it." he said seriously. Only after he'd spoken to her did he notice what they were learning about today, Shawn's eyes widening as he took in the majestic Hippogriffs. This was going to be a great class.

Kira noddd at Tristan and watched apprehensively as the witch walked up to a Hippogriff. She was glad to see the beast bow back to the girl and her heart had a chance to calm down a bit. It was stressful, teaching such a dangerous class, but otherwise it would be quite boring. Who wanted to talk about some tame creatures if they could interact with a Hippogriff?

She smiled at the Hufflepuff Prefect as he ran up to them. "No worries, Mr Travers. Join in if you want, but please do be careful. If you approach a Hippogriff, you have to bow, holding eye contact and if it bows back, you're free to move forward. If it doesn't bow back, I suggest you run."

When some time passed, Kira cleared her throat to get everyone's attention. "There's only a few minutes left and I don't want you to be late for your next class. Thank you all for coming. Good luck with your exams and have a nice summer!"

Tristan guessed that the Hippogriff sensed her animalistic behavior because it quickly bowed to her. She reache dout her hadn to the fantastic creature and waited for it to get closer for her to pet it. "Whos a good boy?" She said calmly. "Nice Hippogryff. Good boy." She took another step and smiled softly at the giant beast.
