Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years   Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years EmptyFri Jul 11, 2014 10:48 am

Formal Duels.

With the holidays just around the corner, the Norwegian found herself able to practically feel the buzz of the students' desperate anticipation to get away from school until next year. She couldn't blame them; back in Lugarmago, she had been one of the worst for getting excited about Summer and Christmas breaks, usually because it meant she could see her family.

She vaguely wondered for a moment how her brother was doing at Salem now; he didn't attend her class personally but she didn't really mind that much; she figured he would find it embarrassing. Lucelia had been informed by their mother that he had been sorted into Belladonna house there, something that amused her because it was just so fitting from what she had heard.

She sat lightly on the edge of her desk, wand held loosely in her fingers as she looked over at the arena, which was set up properly for a duel this time with three raised platforms.. The smile that tugged up the corners of her lips couldn't be helped, it seemed; she wanted to know where theory ended and talent began.

Alyson walked into Dueling and found out that she was the only student there besides the Professor of course. She smiled at the Professor politely. "Hi Professor Tshara" she greeted. She liked this Professor, she knew what she was doing and Alyson liked that with people. The blonde then proceeded to wait for class to start.

Bryson rubbed the sleep out of his eyes as he made his way towards Dueling. He loved being Prefect but it came with a price, he had to patrol his area and make sure that there were no students wondering around. The Prefect walked inside the classroom and gave a polite nod. "Hello" he greeted. Bryson then looked to the board to see what they would be learning and took out his wand considering he would need it.

Tess had to admit she was a little wary of a newer professor teaching dueling. she had to admit she was used to her brother teaching, his method and his way of thinking. But being so self-centered she hadn't even bothered to pay attention to dueling changing to a new professor permanently. As she pushed the door opened, she look at the professor curiously, and was put off at seeing she was the only Slytherin that had arrived. Standing straighter than usual, she waited patiently for others to arrive and the lesson to start.

After being advised not to attend the first tow Duelling Lessons, Thana had been given permission from the Ministry to attend the last one. She walked up to the classroom and went in, "Hello Professor" she said, looking around for people she knew.

She spotted Tess, her Head Girl and a person she liked. "Hey hun" she said, standing next to her. She noticed that she was the only Ravenclaw here so far.

Duelling was a subject that was neither here nor there with Josh. Professor Holmes had been a good professor when he'd taught the subject, and the new professor was alright. Easier on the eye, at least. Entering the classroom, Josh noted the only other Slytherin in the room, and moved towards her. Hopefully, the Ravenclaw beside her would move off, but Josh wasn't bothered, he didn't plan on talking to either of them anyway.

It was his usual nod of acknowledgement towards Tess and then Josh looked to the board.

Slipping his wand from his belt, Josh let his bag drop to the floor, waiting for others to come in to the classroom and the professor to begin the class.

Duelling had come up on to Gina's timetable, she didn't remember signing up to it, but figured she would give the class a go. Stepping in to the classroom, Gina noted how quiet it seemed to be. Her eyes travelled to the witch at the front and a slight smirk touched her lips. Why had she been missing duelling when there was such beauty in the room?

Gina paused, registering those thoughts and shaking her head. Those thoughts were not orthodox! Standing by herself at the back of the room, the Hufflepuff waited to see what was going to happen in this lesson.

Kedzie really liked Dueling and was happy to make her way inside the class. She saw a few students there but not a lot. The Ravenclaw walked towards where the other students were and waited for the class to begin. Kedzie always thought the lessons were a good learning experience and knew this lesson would be as well.

Ryan walked into Dueling and saw that the class already had students in there from younger to older. He of course was in the mix of it. He stood by and waited for the class to begin, he saw that there was in fact going to be Dueling so he just stood by waiting to be told what to do. The Gryffindor saw other Gryffindors in the class and felt a little more at home.

Duelling was the best class, it was always fun and useful, and Natasha certainly enjoyed using spells in practical situations. It was clearly the best part about school. So she made her way to the classroom happily "Professor," she acknowledged before she took her seat and readied herself for a class she knew was going to be exciting.

Violet enjoyed particularly using spells on other people, and duelling was the perfect place for that, when they weren't utilising dummies. She hoped this lesson it would be harder, and more challenging than the last lesson. She made her way to the classroom, walked in and took her seat at the back. She readied herself for the class, waiting patiently and silently for it to begin.

Duelling was by far the most useful subject offered at Hogwarts. She cheerfully made her way to the classroom, acknowledging the Professor with her winning, warm smile and took her seat in the room. As she got ready for class, she wondered what they'd be learning today, knowing it would certainly be useful stuff. Everyone needs to know how to defend themselves, after all.

Cassidy wasn't surprised when she walked into the classroom and saw that it was pretty full by the time she arrived. Duelling was the most popular subject at the school, it was only natural it should be full. She walked into the classroom, giving the teacher a friendly smile before she found a seat not already taken and got her things ready to start class.

Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years   Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years EmptySun Jul 27, 2014 5:05 pm

((OOC; wow sorry this is so late guys>.< also yes it's the same post as in Salem but shh let's pretend that it isn't okat it's eleven o'clock and i'm tired))

"Okay," the witch started, clearing her throat and standing tall in the front and center of the room. "I guess we'll get started. Today, you're going to be in a formal duel situation. I'm sure by now we all know the etiqutette; the challenge, the bow, 'seconds' - or a trusted ally to act in your place should they need to - if you so desire, and the limits. You shall not harm, you shall not kill, you shall not have any physical contact with your partner. You can choose who you pair up with for this lesson, but don't make it too easy nor too difficult for yourselves."

She knew that it probably came across that she was taking the easy route, but it felt like more of an assessment this way. Seeing who they decided to pair up with was the first part; it was a case of people they knew or people they were the same level as. How they performed under their chosen circumstance was the next.

"I mean this with the best of intentions," she spoke up again, addressing the group before her. "But you may find yourselves wand to wand with someone you considered a friend. Not everyone is out to get you- not at all- but don't take it easy on someone just because they know your secrets. In a duel to the death, it's your life or theirs." Way to make this into a dark lesson, Lucelia she told herself, perching on her desk, ready to intervene should the need arise.

A formal duel situation should be fun, Violet thought to herself. She was a talented witch, there was no doubt about it. Now she needed to find an adequate partner who would actually, challenge her. She half-listened as the teacher went on about real life situations, yadda, yadda, yadda. When finally she had finished, she decided that the older Ravenclaw named Thana should suffice. She walked over to the older girl "Duel?" she asked her.

Josh listened as the professor explained what they were going to do, and was quite glad when a Hufflepuff moved to the Ravenclaw beside Tess asking to be partners. Moving towards the Head Girl, Josh raised an eyebrow at the girl. "Wanna partner up? We might actually learn something from one another?" He asked, his tone quite clearly showing the distaste of the skill on show for the rest of the room.

The Slytherin was quite sure Tess wouldn't deny him that much, both of them worked to high standards, and Merlin knew he was quite sure nobody else held their standards in this school. Now it would just be a matter of waiting to see what they had to do next.

Partnering up? Tess heard the professor's explanation she wondered who she trusted enough to have a duel with. She didn't want to feel guilty if she attacked, and her eyes trailed around the room. This was always the hard part, but before she could make her decision she saw Josh coming her way. A small smile began to form as he asked her.

"Wanna partner up? We might actually learn something from one another?"

The professor had said that they needed to partner up with a friend. And while Josh was tough, she also knew that he wouldn't go too easy on her. She nodded knowing that it was satisfying.

"Of course, I figured you'd try to kick my arse anyways" she said smirking before walking towards the area.

Pulling her hair back, she tied it in a bun already knowing she was not going to get any part of her burned, at least not if she could help it. She waited for Josh, but curtsied showing she was ready whenever he was.

"Of course, I figured you'd try to kick my arse anyways"

Josh let out a soft tsk at the witch's use of a minor swear word. But a moment later a small smirk touched his features. "Of course, Holmes. You're my favourite little punching bag." He told the witch, a glint of amusement in his eyes. Though, in a manner of speaking there was probably more than one person that could fill that title, but for now, Tess was the best he had.

With the acceptance in place, the duo moved to one of the duelling areas, and Josh's wand was out the moment he turned to face the witch. The Quidditch Captain bowed in the formal manner of the duel that was internationally recognised, before righting himself and taking up a defensive position.

The only time Josh had seen the witch really work was in Potions, so the rest he wasn't totally aware of her capabilities. That, and Josh always liked the other person to go first in a duel, gave him a better knowledge of what he was up against in the long run.

"Of course, Holmes. You're my favourite little punching bag."

Tess rolled her eyes at his comment, but couldn't hold back a smirk at his words. She knew that he enjoyed being in control in every sense of the word, and couldn't possibly let go of it. She supposed that's why he amused her so much, that you could always find a bit of leeway when it came to him, if you were smart enough to figure it out.

"You have such a way with words Murray" she replied back.

As soon as they took position she waited for his turn to bow and looked at him, studying him and trying to figure out what angle he was going. She realized that he was going to wait for her. She'd seen him in potions but never once were they actually in a dueling or battle. She started using a starter spell to test exactly what his angle was when it came to dueling.

"Aguamenti!" she called out. Her mind concentrating on the stream of blue to increase the pressure of water.

"You have such a way with words Murray"

The smug grin only continued as the witch faux-complimented his words. He knew, of course, his head wasn't big enough to think it as such, but it was times like this, he knew that perhaps there was one person in this bloody castle who understood him, even slightly.

With the pleasantries of the duel done, Josh waited for the first spell to hurtle towards him. Tess' approach seemed cautious, in Josh's opinion as she sent a jet of water in his direction. "Glacius! Josh called out, watching the jet freeze not a moment later, before sidestepping to his right to get a clearer view of the witch.

"Tarantallegra!" Josh shot back at his fellow Slytherin, making sure to keep the spells to non-harmful ones. Likely Professor Tsahara would have a field day if Josh did anything worse.

Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years   Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years EmptyThu Jul 31, 2014 4:20 pm

Tess was fond of using elemental charms more than aggressive ones, simply because it was training. And in an odd way, she felt as if she couldn't harm someone like Josh, even though he had given her bruises. She figured it was because when it came to practice, it was only fair for her to gain them, as a way of showing she was earning her position, by avoiding some, but yet not good enough to miss all: an improvement.

As he sent Glacius her way, she huffed knowing that there was no point in using water when it would be frozen. As the tickling charm came her way, she attempted to reflect it, not wanting to make a fool out of herself by dancing till tears came.

"If people want me to dance, usually they ask nicely " she called out.

Barely avoiding a tumble; it wasn't happening, especially not in her skirt. Spinning her wand in an infinity rotation she mumbled the hex, as bluebell flames began to spin out. Slowly the blue light began to form itself together, before she began to throw them at Josh from different directions, like a dirty snowball fight.

"If people want me to dance, usually they ask nicely "

"I'm not most people, Holmes!" Josh countered with a wry, half smile on his lips. The Slytherin watched his partner deflect the spell with relative ease and then throw back bluebell flames at him. To begin, Josh shielded himself, and sidestepped out the way of the first few. But as they came a little quicker he dodged quicker before finally throwing himself down to the floor out of the way.

"Stupefy!" Josh replied with from the floor, hoisting himself up a moment later and casting a very quick look towards the professor who wasn't looking. "Sectumsempra!" He added in no more than a whisper, watching the two spells hurtle at the witch one after the other.

Okay, Josh had changed his mind. If the professor wasn't looking, then... that wasn't his fault.

Thana was busy listening when Violet came up to her and offered to duel, Thana was surprised but secretly glad. At least she knew Violet, not that it would really matter in a life or death situation.

" Of course" Thana replied. Taking Violet as her partner and waiting for her to begin. " Ready Violet?" She asked, drawing her wand and bowing.

This was something her father had insisted on, duelling. One had to be able to defend and attack , Thana liked being able to practice her spells , so it was the perfect chance.

PostSubject: Re: Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years   Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years EmptySun Aug 03, 2014 2:14 am

"I'm not most people, Holmes!"

Tess chuckled as he replied. It would be just like him to answer that way. Still, as the bluebells began to fly towards him he was having a harder time keeping up. It brought some pride from her realizing his struggle, but soon enough he got a grip and threw the stupefy spell, moving the bluebells away, as she herself was forced to dodge a few. In her dodging she was oblivious to his choice in spell. She had thankfully moved towards the left from her original spot when the spell was shot.

A cry of shock escaped her as it brushed her arm and fell feeling the slow cutting that made her try uselessly to cover as blood began to seed through her shirt. Looking immediately at him from the floor herself and glared. Anger, and shock ran through her, and pride beating out from logic, she threw a fell spells back.

"Slugulus Eructo" she muttered angrily, her aim right towards him. Followed by the stinging jinx.

It was all fun and games till someone got hurt, and she wasn't going to back down, even if the professor tried.

PostSubject: Re: Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years   Dueling, Lesson 3 - All Years EmptySun Aug 03, 2014 2:05 pm

The rage in the witch's eyes showed that Josh had gotten through the witch's outwardly calm exterior. A menacing grin touched his features as he pushed himself back up to his feet. He was just about upright enough to dodge the first spell, and was ready to twist back towards the witch.

It was as the boy turned back, his wand readying for the next spell.

The trouble with that though, Josh didn't see the next spell coming until it hit him in the wrist. The stinging sensation that erupted in the joint made the Slytherin wince, his wand dropping from his hand as he recoiled from the attack. Josh held his left hand up to the witch in a manner that said she'd one as he bent down to retrieve his wand.

His wrist, or at least the part extending from his shirt. It was red, and swollen from the witch's jinx and Josh was simply glaring. Without another word, Josh moved off the platform and back to his original position against the wall. Sulking.
