Katherine was highly excited to be back for the new year for school, the blonde loved teaching and she was going to have new students mixed with her old ones. The blonde walked into her classroom and saw that her classroom was in fact that same way she left it the year before. That was good for her. Katherine took a seat at her desk in the front of the class and looked to make sure she had everything she needed. Their lesson would be on Arresto Momentum, it was a useful charm that she knew her students would like.

Jaden was running to make sure that she was going to get to class on time. It was strange that her sister wasn't going to be in classes. But she knew that Sadie was the school healer. When she looked around she at least seen that she wasn't late. Which was always a good thing. She couldn't help but wondered when Brayden was going to be there. The boy was on her mind a lot. But that was because he would always make her smile. She then waited for the professor.

Brayden wanted to take Charms this year and he was going to do exactly that no matter what anyone said. He hadn't taken it last year because his father didn't think that would be a good enough subject for him, but now he got to choose his own classes and decided he wanted to give it a try. The Belladonna walked into the classroom and took a seat. He saw Jaden along with the Professor. "Morning."

Walking into the Charms classroom, Ares saw two other students both from a different house then him, he also knew they were his age just from what they looked like. Ares took a seat and waited for the class to begin. He came last year to Professor Harrisson's classes and actually quite enjoyed himself, he just hoped this would be the same as the previous year.

There weren't very many people in the charms classroom, Isabelle noticed as she entered. That didn't really matter though; it wouldn't subtract from the lesson in her mind, she just didn't know why people wouldn't chose to take it. Charms seemed to be ever so useful. The Wormwood found herself a seat and elegantly sat down, smiling over at Professor Harrisson. "Good morning Professor," the girl said, reaching into her bag to pull out her usual supplies. "I hope your summer treated you well."

There was one boy from her own house, and students from both of the others present. Looking around, she tried to memorise their faces, hoping that she would encounter them again in some of her other classes. Meeting new people was exciting and she couldn't help but want to get to know her peers, but as had been proven before, not everyone liked her constant upbeat attitude.

Oh well, she thought with a shrug of her shoulders. Someone will eventually...

There was something about getting to a classroom full with people that irked her. Sitting next to strangers was always uncomfortable and awkward, but there was nothing to do about it. Next time, she would go to class earlier.

Looking around, she noticed a bunch of people from different houses, including a girl from her same house and year who she had never really talked to. Gillian picked a seat near the front to the right, and waited patiently for the class to start, looking  inconspicuously to the rest of her classmates and wondering who they were. She decided to start getting to know people, and hopefully someone could be less than an infantile person. She opened her notebook and started doodling with her quill, picking green ink for her squiggly figures.

The class looked pretty successful and Katherine waited a few more moments before she decided to begin her class. "Hello everyone and welcome back to Salem, I hope you had a good summer. Today we will be going over the spell Arresto Momentum. Can any of you tell me what that is?" The blonde haired Professor asked looking at all of her students.

When Professor Harrisson asked for someone to tell her what Arresto Momentum was, Brayden was the one who spoke. "Its a spell performed by a witch or a wizard, it helps them slow down a moving target. It is quite useful because if there is someone you love who is falling and you weren't quick enough to grab onto them, you can use that spell so they don't fall to their deaths" Brayden explained. His father used that spell on him when he fell out of his tree house when he was six.

Her parents always berated her for never reading previous to a class, but in her opinion, classes were the place were you learn, not your house, or anywhere outside the classroom. So this wasn't going to be the last time that she didn't know the answer to a question asked by the professor. However, Gillian was really good at taking notes and reading fast, and she could get relatively good grades without being too responsible about her homework and out of the class reading assignments.

As soon as professor Harrison started speaking, her doodling stopped, and she wrote in big capital letters "Aresto Momentum"; she had never heard of such spell, but that wasn't something new, seeing how she was a muggleborn, and before she got her letter from Salem, Gillian had thought about magic as something out of children's tales.

When another student answered, she copied down everything he said, and left some space in front of those notes to see if anything of what he said was wrong. She also copied some questions she had about the workings of that spell, and waited a bit to see if anyone else had something more to say before she asked her questions.

Katherine waited to see who would answer and when a young Belladonna boy answered, she nodded. She was glad that someone knew what she was talking about from time to time. "Correct Brayden, 10 points to Belladonna. Like he just said, this spell helps save people from a high and dangerous fall. It helps you in so many ways that not even you can understand. There are times when Wizards and Witches will hesitate before performing the spell because they feel like it won't work. Try to keep those thoughts out of your heads and believe in your magic" Katherine explained.

"Now for today, we will be doing this spell. I won't let anyone jump off of something, but that doesn't mean that objects won't. I want everyone to participate. The first person performing this spell will be" Katherine looked at the students before continuing. "Gillian" she chose the girl taking notes. Katherine conjured up a ladder that was high enough and grabbed a book. The blonde climbed up the ladder until she was at the top. "I am going to throw this book and you're going to point your wand and say Arresto Momentum to keep it from hitting the ground hard. Don't worry if you don't get it the first time, focus and believe in your magic and yourself. Picture this book as something or someone who is important to you. Pretend like they are falling to their death your their only hope at surviving" Katherine explained before she let the book drop from her hand.

Charms (1st-3rd years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Charms (1st-3rd years)   Charms (1st-3rd years) EmptyThu May 08, 2014 11:08 pm

One of the hardest things for Gillian, was believing in her own magic. She was good in theory, but even after her second year in Salem, it seemed that practical magic was something she needed to improve; sometimes she thought that maybe she should get, if not a friend, a partner to practice with; but she was a quiet person most of the time, and kept to herself. Gillian felt that she needed to change that.

When she heard her name being called out, Gillian turned completely red, and reluctanly stood up and walked to the front of the class where the ladder was. looking up to where the woman was standing with the book, she asked professor Harrisson "does it only work when an object or a person is falling? I mean, does it only works with falling solid objects? or could you slow down something not entirely solid that's going horizontally?".Already imagining lots of possibilities if it could happen.

Gillian really hadn't had time to review the spell in her head when the woman on the stair dropped the book. Following her instincts, she flicked her wand sharply, and said evenly "aresto momentum!". Some bright sparks flew out of her wand towards the book, but it just trembled a little on its way to the floor, that landed with a loud 'THUD'. Gillian cringed both because of her failure and because of the damage that the book would suffer. Still, with some stubbornness that was a strong characteristic in her, she picked up the book and handed it to the professor on the stair. "Can we try it again? what am I doing wrong?" she asked with a hint of frustration in her voice.

Katherine watched as Gillian didn't get it right like Katherine clearly saw in her eyes, she knew the younger girl was trying her hardest. "Its okay, no one gets it right on their first try, I know I didn't" Katherine reassured the young girl. When she looked at the time she saw that she needed to wrap up her class before it was too late and she overlapped it. "Okay that is enough for today, if anyone needs help with this you can come to me and ask for help and I will gladly help you. There will be no homework for today so I will see you next week, bye guys" Katherine dismissed her students.
