Bethan hadn't written to her parents in a while. They worried a lot, and were very overprotective sometimes, so she was always a bit scared to wait longer than a couple of days to reply to a letter. So after laboring over a letter in the common room for all of five minutes, she was off to the owlery to find her owl Billy. She loved Billy. She'd bought him the summer before last, after a whole horrible year of being without a pet to love. Her mother or the school rules, unfortunately, wouldn't let her bring one of the cows or dogs or chickens to school.
What was annoying about the owlery was all those stairs on the way up. They were horrible. Especially since Bethan was in such a lazy mood today, after a hard day of classes.
When she reached the top (finally!), she happened to trip over her own feet and end up on the floor. With a sigh, she got up, far too used to falling over herself, only to see there was another girl here, an older one. That was so embarrassing! Her face turned bright red and she found herself muttering, "Sorry!" Sorry! Beth was always saying sorry, for one reason or another. Or no reason.
