CoMC Lesson 1 (4th-5th Years)

Kira was standing on a clearing near the forest, excited for this lesson. There were a few brown horses standing near and one of them was stretching its wings. They were beautiful and Kira could look at them forever and not get tired of them. She was petting one of them while she was waiting and she hoped her students would be just as excited about this as she was.

Care of Magical Creatures was probably one of Carson's favorite classes, because it broke away from the traditional learning of most other subjects. Carson was not the type of guy that had the patience to sit around and be lectured, he preferred the hands on approach by far.

'In more ways than one' he thought to himself as he walked to where the class was meeting for this lesson. For one wasn't the last person to class and smiled at both the Profeesor and the other student. "Beautiful day isn't it?"

Aphrodite loved this class and she was so excited to be coming back and learning once more. When the Belladonna spotted the class along with a few students already, it gave Aphrodite a little bit more hip in her step. "Hello" Aphrodite greeted everyone with a smile. Aphrodite looked at what would be learning but saw an amazing view. The blonde was in stunning shock.

Callum took Care of Magical Creatures because he genuinely enjoyed it. It was a nice, relaxing subject. And Callum thought that one needed a topic that was just easy-going. He walked down to the space used for classes and saw the winged horses."Professor Reid," he greeted, flashing her a smile "We learning about Pegasus', are we?" he set his bag down.

"I did, thank you, Miss Newbury. I assume yours was amazing as well?" Kira greeted her student and gestured to her legs. The last time she saw the girl, she was on wheelchair. "Congratulations." she smiled warmly.

"It is a lovely day, Mister Harper-Conrad, far too beautiful to spend it inside." She grinned at the boy and then smiled at Aphrodite as she arrived. "Good morning, Miss Oxton."

"Hello, Mister Hunt. You're almost correct. We're learning about winged horses in general." Kira explained, smiling kindly at the boy. She figured she could start the class and if anyone would be late, then so be it.

"Can anyone tell me anything they might know about winged horses? What sort of breeds there are, that sort of thing?" She asked the small class.

If he was being honest with himself, Carson had barely been paying attention to the subject matter of today's class. All he'd wanted was to get out of the dreary castle and get some sun, and if he also happened to snag credit for a course while he was at it--well then all the better. It wasn't until the professor had spoken that Carson even realized there were horses around, "And here I thought that smell was coming from you Jax." Carson said with a plauful smirk towards rhe Nightshade.

He honestly knew nothing about winged horses and figured keeping his mouth shut would be the best course of action. Though of the next portion of the class was going ro be riding one of these bad boys, Carson was all over that.

Aphrodite listened to everyone answering the question their Professor had asked. The blonde thought about what she had learned from her summer reading about Winged Horses. What everyone said was true, but she was trying to search her brain for something that hadn't been said yet. The Belladonna raised her hand. "There are four different types of breeds. Abraxan, Aethonan, Granian, and Thestral" Aphrodite answered.

Kira sent a welcoming nod to Jax as a greeting when he arrived and then focused on Victoria. After the young witch gave her answer, the late-comer gave his and the Professor nodded along. They were both correct, but she was glad that the Belladonna spoke up as well.

"5 points to all of you. Every species of winged horses is different. Thestrals can only be seen by those who have seen death. This morbid fact is why a lot of wizards and witches think them unlucky.
Abraxans are huge and very powerful. As Mister Blake said, they're also intelligent and they don't let just anybody ride them.
Granian breed is very fast. They're mentioned in the Norse mythology, where a hero named Sigurd had a horse name Grani. It's said Grani moved more swiftly than the wind.
And finally, there are Aethonans. They're very popular in Great Britain and Ireland, where these come from. As some of you know, I also teach at Hogwarts and I was able to borrow these beauties for this lesson.

We'll be learning how to take care of them. But first, you need to establish trust with them. Everybody pick one and approach them. Move slowly, let them get used to your scent. You need to be a calming, soothing presence." Kira explained and smiled encouragingly.

"Oh, if anybody's afraid of or allergic to horses, tell me. You do not have to do this if it makes you uncomfortable." The witch said. She didn't want to have another student faint in her class.

Carsos listened boredly to all the boring details, just enough that he could pass test on the subject if he needed to. When they were instructed to pick a horse he perked up a bit and his attitude changed. Pushing up from againsy the tree he was leaning on he scanned the pasture. There was one horse standing slightly off from the others swishing it's tail flippantly. "I like that one, he looks like he doesn't give a fuck."

With a smile on his face the tennager slowly approached the winged beast zpeaking in a low and easy manner. "Sup horse bro? Imma come pet you okay?" His steps were slow and deliberate and when he reached the horse it gazed up at him for a second gave a bit of a snort and resumed eating. Carson took this as a good sign and placed his hand on it's snout.

Aphrodite was actually really excited for this, she loved animals, even the complete vicious ones and people liked to call her insane because of that too. Aphrodite went over to one of the winged horses that wasn't occupied by anyone. It was white and looked pure, something Aphrodite liked to think she was because she was always genuinely kind to those even if they were mean to others. "Hey girl, aren't you a pretty horse" Aphrodite talked to her. The horse was really gorgeous and something she loved.

Aphrodite picked up a sugar cube and fed it to the horse. "You like that huh?" Aphrodite asked the horse that was chowing down on the sugar cube. The Belladonna fed her horse some more.

Kira watched as the students moved towards the horses and petted them. None of the horses seemed to mind much and that was a very good sign, so the Professor smiled, satisfied. She was glad the kids today were all nice and didn't have any tendencies towards hurting the animals. She wasn't in the mood to deal with that.

"Well done, everybody! Now we'll continue with brushing. You will each get a brush and try to be gentle as you brush the horses. They'll love it, it's relaxing and pleasant, like when somebody plays with your hair." Kira said as she moved around, giving each student a brush.

She moved towards one of the free horses and demonstrated how they should do it, in case any of them haven't done it before and wouldn't know how to.

Aphrodite listened to what Professor Reid had to say about brushing the horses and Aphrodite could barely contain the excitement. Aphrodite has always wanted to be able to brush a horse and ride one, the horses were amazing creatures but you needed to be extra careful with them. The blonde picked up a brush and began to brush the horse she was occupying softly so it didn't see her as dangerous.

Looking confusedly at the brush Carson waited for the professor to demonstrate proper technique. Looking at his wild hair and rumpled clothes you could tell that Carson barely knew how to groom himself. Let alone a large and powerful beast as this. After being sure he'd seen and learned to mimic what the professor had showed them Carson started to brush the colt he was drawn too. He continued toalking to the animal about nothing at all really, just to keep the beast soothed and distracted in case he did something wrong.

After a few tedious moments of this Carson looked up at the Professor, "Soooooo are we gonna get to ride these? Becasue that would be wicked sweet."

Callum listened to the instructions from the Professor. He always had a calm, confident exterior. He carefully made his way over to one, making sure to give the impression that he wasn't going to harm it. He reached out his hand and began to gently pet it. Easy enough, he thought.

"Well done, everybody! Now we'll continue with brushing. You will each get a brush and try to be gentle as you brush the horses. They'll love it, it's relaxing and pleasant, like when somebody plays with your hair."

He took a brush "Well, I do love people playing with my hair," he smirked and turned back to his horse, beginning to brush through its beautiful mane. He liked this lesson very much, it was, itself, relaxing.

Kira moved among her students, making sure they were all doing okay. She overheard Jackson telling the horse to kick someone and she just shook her head, amused. It just so happened Jackson was grooming Lady Éowyn, who has, in fact, kicked several people. Not just on a whim, of course, but when she was being provoked and Kira didn't really have any sympathy towards people who were mean to animals.

Victoria and Callum seemed to be doing well with Sir Aragorn and Lady Arwen and she smiled encouragingly to them as she passed. Carson, however, looked bored, but was still doing a good job grooming his horse, Sir Merry.

"Soooooo are we gonna get to ride these? Becasue that would be wicked sweet."

"Not in this lesson, sorry. I'm afraid I can't let you ride them during class hours, but, you can come after class and we can work something out. Everyone is welcome, but please, owl me first so I'll be here." Teaching at two schools was quite hectic even without announced students coming to ride winged horses. She'd be happy to let them ride, though, it was so much fun.

Kira looked at her watch and raised her eyebrows, it was almost the end of the lesson. "This is all we have time for today, apparently. You all did very well, thank you. Now, about homework. I want you to prepare for our next lesson, which will be dragons. I've got dragon figurines here, you all get one and you'll do research on the type of dragon you get and present it next lesson. You can pair up, or do it alone, I don't care. You'll have class with the older years, so you can pair up with any of them, if you want."

She pulled a satchel with the figurines out of her bag and held it out so the students could each pick one dragon. "The figurines can't hurt you, but they're enchanted so they act like the actual dragons. Without the hurting and eating people part." Kira chuckled.

"If anyone is afraid of dragons and feel like they can't attend the lesson, I completely understand. You can tell me now or owl me and I'll prepare something else for you."

Catching the figurine tossed at him Carson returned Jax's smirk, "Last day? I was thinking on the way to class bro." The brunette gave a hearty laugh as he looked the dragon statuette over. At least this had the potential to be an interesting lesson. Carson kept in mind what the professor had said about sending her an owl if he wanted to fly one of the horse's and he thought very hard about taking her up on her offer.
