Full Name: Joseph Astrid
Birthdate: 01/02
Age: (if an adult)
Country of Origin: London, England
Current Home: London.
General appearance: Black hair, blue eyes, will grow to be around 6 ft.
Special Features: Glasses and a scar on his shoulder.
Blood purity: Muggleborn
Sexual alignment: Bisexual

Personality: Scared. The only word that could even possibly begin to describe Joe is scared. He's essentially terrified of everything, including people, so if he won't talk to you then you know why. Don't take it to heart; he's not good around people anyway and the thought that they could be potentially in any way mean to him scares the daylights out of the boy. He's also very shy, which only adds to his lack of ability to sustain a decent conversation for more than five minutes.

He's always sweet, though. Whenever someone's upset or looks as though they're about to blow a fuse, you know you can count on Joe to try and bring them back up to a happy spirit. He's there for anyone who needs it, even if he doesn't particularly like them, because he knows what it's like to be alone and lost in yourself.

Background: Joe was born into a very rich family, making all his neighbors believe he was raised to be a classic snobby rich-kid. He didn't go outside a lot as a child because school was always more important than having friends, and he didn't much get the opportunity to socialise. Little did his parents know that this would very much impact what he would be like a few years on.

Being raised as a muggle, finding out he had magical abilities was a lot for Joe to get his head around, especially when he was told he was going to go to a school with other magical people. Really, the word 'magical' isn't necessary, because he would have to be around other people, and that thought really scared him a little. He had never liked being in other people's company, much more enjoying his own, but he knew there would be a change in order should be want to survive this new environment.

It took a few months at Hogwarts for Joe to steady himself and convince himself he would be okay. Never having been apart from his parents until this time made Joe very homesick, and he had to constantly tell himself that it was for the best that he was here. He would make friends and be happier; he could learn to do cool things and he would become independent. He could become whoever he wanted to be.

Sadly, becoming whoever he wanted to be didn't seem like much of an option. He had never before felt as though he had any kind of self-esteem issues, but having not made any friends in his first year and being mid-way through his second, Joe took it upon himself to mentally complain about everything he dd wrong and chastise himself on any flaws he felt like he had. It didn't do him much good, and in the summer before third year, he recoiled further into his shell and has no plans on getting out of it any time soon.

It was as if it only took himself to criticize everything he did for his voice to seem lost.

Family: Mother: Jane Astrid / 33 / Living / Muggle
Father: Peter Astrid / 33 / Living / Muggle
Pet: (if applicable) Pika / 3 / Living / Black Lab

Family Background: Jane's parents were always fairly rich and were always able to cope with themselves. It had been a long line of riches and perfection and perfect normality, until Joe came along with his magic powers and that. And then, well... Peter's family were just the same. Rich, and proud of it. They didn't care about anyone if they didn't have to, which is where Peter's arrogance came from.

Hi Joe, in Paris for two days visiting a friend. Saw a beautiful specimen of Fleur de Lis here but I've got too many seed samples as it is. Maybe we can try planting some next year to see how they react to Scottish soil and wind? Hope you and the mimosas are doing alright. See you in a few weeks. Have a good summer.

PS: Eiffel tower my foot, they should have a postcard with the Tuileries on it. Wink

PostSubject: Joe's 16th - SUBSTANCE ABUSE.   Joe Astrid EmptyTue Apr 29, 2014 3:12 pm

February 1st, 2012
Otherwise known as the sixteenth birthday of Joseph Astrid

warning; substance abuse at the end
permission to gm given by azalea harrington

Waking up on the 1st February, not expecting any presents from his non-existent friends and his not-interested-in-sending-owls family wasn't something Joe was looking forward to. He sat up in bed after a few minutes of having to convince himself to do so, and looked around for a few seconds before silently standing up and dressing himself in his school robes of black and yellow. It was early, too early for most to be awake he deemed it.

Another birthday to long for the end of, so it seemed.

The boy slowly made his way to the common room, head hanging low. He hoped to avoid everything today. What was the point in celebrating birthdays? They just marked another year closer to death, closer to growing old and losing everything in life. They marked another year he had to live without knowing how to smile at the sun, and they marked yet another bloody year that he had to battle through before he could just stay in bed all day without worrying about responsibilites.

Walking around the castle was his favourite way to kill time before the sun came up. He was alone then, nothing but the cold wind blowing his robes to disturb his thinking. He enjoyed his alone time because of what it was. Alone time. Time where he couldn't have an excited first year shoving him out the way on their way to class, or time where he couldn't have someone with a better-than-you attitude barging past with the utmost simple arrogance.

As per usual on his Friday morning, he made his way down to the herbology greenhouses for his first lesson of the day. He tried to focus on the subject, he really did. It was his favourite, and Azalea was his favourite professor. She was so understanding, she knew him so well and they got on like he never had gotten on with anyone in his life. But, as per usual, everyone else was just a little bit faster on getting the answers than he was, and every time he found himself dropping his head with a defeated sigh.

It seemed that he wasn't as good at it as he first thought.

He sent the occasional smile across the room to Azalea, trying to let on that he was okay. No-one had to know it was his birthday, no-one had to car. But it would be nice for him to feel happy at least once. The opportunity for such a thing came up as the bell for the end of class rang, and he stood up ready to rush off to his next lesson. He was asked to stay aside though, and he agreed to do so, stepping off to let everyone else through.

With her usual, proud beam on her face, Azalea handed him something. With shaky hands, Joe accepted it, looking up at her through his hair as the faintest of smiles tugged his lips up. "Th-...thank you," he said softly, feeling a warmth in his cheeks that he seemed to have been missing these past few weeks. He gently placed the present on her desk and gently put his arms around her, hugging her because she was his only friend in the world, and Joe knew it would be okay with her.

"Thank you," he repeated, stepping back and picking the gift back up. "Thank you very much..." He had to go to class, and he was sure she knew that, so with another thanks, he went on his way to a lesson he really didn't want to sit through but didn't seem to have that much of a choice. He would rather stay in the greenhouses and work all day, but that wasn't an option and he knew that.

The Hufflepuff ate alone that day, no-one recognising what day it was. He pushed breakfast around his plate until classes began, and he sat swinging his legs at lunch, waiting to go again. At dinner, he ate hardly anything again, head resting on his hand as he desperately waited to be set free. At least once he had nothing better to do, he could isolate himself again. Go up to his dormitory and "celebrate" alone.

The first time that the bottle touched his lips was around seven in the evening. Everyone else in his dormitory, with it being a Friday night, was out, taking advantage of the fact that they could leave homework until the Sunday evening. He found himself alone, hangings brought around his bed as he sat back against his pillows. The cold liquid burned and it was the strangest sensation, but it was oddly fulfilling to feel it drain down his throat. He coughed and spluttered the first few times, sure, but after about an eigth of the bottle he got used to it.

Azalea's present and card had been stored inside his trunk for safe-keeping. He couldn't stand the thought of losing it, or of anyone else knowing what his best friend had gotten him. The card would remain under his pillow forever, only for his own eyes to ever see. It was nice to know someone cared, at least, but he wished so much that there was at least one other. One his own age, one who... One who he could talk to all the time, not just on Fridays...

He felt himself grow gradually more and more tipsy, vision starting to blur and thoughts starting to become less and less coherent. He chuckled harshly to himself, draining the rest of the bottle that he'd had stored under his bed for the occasion. "Happy effing Birthday," he muttered, not even brave enough in his semi-drunken state to swear properly as he tossed the carcas to the end of his sheets and watched the dreggings form a tiny puddle on the yellow fabric. "There's nothing happy about it."
