The final class of the day was with the older students, and Jake was quite happy to move on to such things. It wasn’t an overly difficult lesson, but it was a useful lesson no less. Jake had once again cleared the room of chairs and tables because it was easier to work with. Checking the rosters for familiar names for that year.

Leaning against his desk, Jake waited for the time to come when students would arrive. Behind him on the board read the words “Stinging Jinx” in his usual untidy handwriting.

Aragorn got ready for one of his favourite classes, Defence Against the Dark Arts. It was a subject of great interest to him, and since it was his final year he had to do well in it. Walking into the classroom he nodded to the Professor before dropping his back and reading the untidy writing.

Stinging Jinx Aragorn was already excited, it sounded painful. He stood, waiting for his fellow classmates to arrive. This was going to be a very good year, if these types of lessons were taught all the time.

Jareth made his way to the DADA classroom, this was his favourite class apart from flying. His hangover had mostly gone away, but the slap from his "sister" still hurt. Jareth walked in and smiled at the Professor "Sup Sir?" he said in his usual greeting. He leant against the wall and waited for the class to begin. He also noticed that he had beat his sister to this class. He smiled to himself and waited.

Diem walked into class and wasn't surprised that there was people here before her. She had been in the middle of getting ready for the new year that it took her a little longer. Her hair had gotten a little longer in the summer and that meant that she had to spend more time on her hair. Diem smiled at the three people already there and waved politely. She enjoyed Jake's class and hoped that all was well with him. "Hi Jake" she greeted kindly. Diem waited patiently for the class to begin.

Michelle walked into the DADA classroom. She greeted everyone who were ther and then leaned towards the wall. She did let her nag fell down next to her. She looked at the board and nodded. She really wasn't sure what that spell or so was right now. She couldn't recall but she is sure that she ha heard name before.

Thana was running late to DADA, at least in her opinion anyway. She quickly and quietly walked in, noticing that it hadn't started yet. For that she was grateful, "Hello Professor" she said, putting her bag down and standing. Reading the board, she was interested immediately.

Jake watched the first couple of people coming in to the classroom and greeted them with a small smile and a soft hello. However, Jake paused, taking a small breath as he was greeted by a total lack of respect.

"Sup Sir?"

Jake was normally carefree, but there were a few things he couldn't tolerate no matter how he tried. "Good morning will suffice, Mr Faowind. And perhaps five points from Belladonna will remind you what manners are." The professor replied, not in a mean tone because he honestly couldn't do that if he tried. But he did want respect. When the class finally filled up, Jake stood from his desk.

"Hello to all of you, welcome back to those who I've seen before and welcome to Defence Against the Dark Arts to those who haven't been before. Feel free to call me Jake, professor and sir are not my forte, though please do remember your manners." He explained, not looking to anyone in particular before he continued.

"Today we will be studying the Stinging Jinx, can anyone tell me anything about this spell? One fact each."

Michelle did think about that spell. She soon remember what it was, actually same time as Jake started with the class. When he asked the question. Then she did also raise her hand just in the case before answering. "Stinging Jinx is a dark charm that can be used to sting the victim's flesh," she said then there now. She could have said much more about it actually.

Jareth groaned as his own head of house took points away, "Jaaaake" he whined, before shutting up as his sister simply looked at him with her look of "Shut up " He promptly did so and looked down. He didn't want anymore trouble from her, not after first class with her. "The stinging jinx leaves the area swollen, much like an allergic reaction" Jareth said out loud.

Aragorn stood quietly as the class filled, and couldn't help but smile as Jareth got told off. He nodded curtly to his only fellow housemate so far, Diem. He didn't know much about the spell that hadn't already been said so he remained quiet. Surprised that the Belladonna boy shut up when the Wormwood girl looked at him. They had a very unusual relationship, that much he could tell.

The whine from the boy who'd just lost points reminded Jake of a petulant child. Safe to say, he as not impressed, but he ignored the boy, because quite honestly, it was verging on pathetic. A man, in Jake's eyes, did not act like that.

Instead, Jake concentrated on the answers he was given and smiled towards Michelle as she got an answer right. Jareth followed with an answer, again a right answer. "Well done, both of you, five points for correct answers." Jake acknowledged. "There is no incantation for the Stinging Jinx, you simply point your wand at the target and think about what you wish to do. As it has been stated, it should bring out marks on the skin, or swelling that distorts the skin. Now, you will not feel the effects today because you will not be practicing on one another. The Hospital Wing doesn't need a class full of students. You will be practicing on the life like dummies behind you." Jake explained, flicking his own wand for them to appear.

"Your first go I will leave the dummy stationary until we get the desired affect, and when I think you are competent enough, I will make it harder. Please take up your positions. And, to anyone who think it might be funny to test on someone else in the room, I strongly suggest you leave now rather than test my patience." He explained, waving them off to have a go.

Thana listened as Jake explained the spell, she had heard of it and even seen it done . However she had never tried it for herself, she raised her hand a question already forming . " Excuse me Jake, but will the affects be realistic to normal human flesh ?" She enquired, wanting to know if the dummies would react the same way as real flesh. While she waited for her answer she pulled out her wand, ready to start.

"Excuse me Jake, but will the affects be realistic to normal human flesh?"

"They will indeed react in precisely the same way as a normal person would." Jake replied to the witch's question. "I like to make the classes as realistic as possible, even when not performing the spell on others." He added, motioning to the fact the dummies did look real that stood before her. They didn't move like normal human beings, and they didn't make sounds, but they were realistic in every other manner.

Aragorn listened as the witch asked a question , the same question he had. She was certainly inquisitive, if not quiet .He smiled at the answer the Professor gave as well. Pulling out his wand, he made his way to one of the dummies, getting ready to attempt his first try. Within a few moments he had grounded himself , and watched with somewhat dissatisfaction as the jinx hit the dummy. It was nowhere near where he had aimed, his result was a swelling on the side of the stomach where he had aimed for the dummies head. It was still a painful hit he was sure, just not very good aiming.

It wasn't good to be late to a class, especially since he was the Head Boy, he was made this position so he could be a good example and to protect his school, but of course he was late and that wasn't okay with him. Apollo made his way inside the class and saw that Jake had begun his class already and he was not totally surprised at that. "I apologize Jake, I will make sure that it doesn't happen again in the future" Apollo apologized and he meant it.

PostSubject: Re: DADA Lesson 1 – Years 6 & 7   DADA Lesson 1 – Years 6 & 7 EmptySun Sep 21, 2014 2:18 am

Thana turned to look as Apollo entered the room, before focusing back at the task at hand. It seemed simple enough, just think of stinging someone... She had seen it done plenty of times, but had never tried to do it. Thana watched as a Nightshade boy, she didn't know his first name yet, but had heard Mycroft call him Stormbearer; caste the spell. It worked for him, even if his aiming was terribly off.

Quietly Thana walked over to one of the dummies, preparing herself to cast the spell. Why they should learn to use this she didn't know, but did as she was instructed and attempted it. Facing the dummy she raised her wand, thinking of the results. She flicked her wand and aimed it towards the dummy, watching as it hit it fairly square in the chest. Satisfied at her results she raised her hand with another question, it was quite out of character for her. Normally she stayed quiet, " Jake, when would we use this? In what situation would it be applied ?" She enquired, for Dark Arts she knew why. It was a handy torture spell, but for normal people she didn't know why it would be used.

"I apologize Jake, I will make sure that it doesn't happen again in the future"

"No problem, Apollo. Try to make sure it doesn't happen again though." Jake told the boy. "We're studying the Stinging Jinx, please take up a position in front of a dummy and give it a shot." Jake told the Head Boy before noting that someone had already started to have a go. Moving up to the other Nightshade, Jake inspected the damage that had been inflicted.

"Good attempt, Aragorn! You can inspect your work closer if you like, take in how the jinx makes skin look for future reference, or try to hit another part of the body if you'd like." With that, Jake moved on towards Thana who was giving the spell a shot. It was a good attempt, hitting one of the larger areas of the body, but most definitely a good place to begin with.

"Well done, Thana!" Jake encouraged as he got closer. "Please take a moment to take in the effects of the spell and then give it another shot." He told her, but it seemed the witch had a question, and Jake nodded in encouragement.

"Jake, when would we use this? In what situation would it be applied?"

"A very good question," Jake replied, clapping his hands together to get the attention of the room. "Thana has just enquired in to the uses of practicing this spell in the classroom. Before I give you the answer, would anyone care to hazard a guess as to why you're practicing the Stinging Jinx today?" Jake asked the room, trying to determine how many of his students were simply going through the motions of the class or were actually thinking about the practical uses.

Diem was about to practice the stinging jinx on a dummy when she heard Jake ask a question. Diem never really thought about these lessons having a specific use, she always thought of them as practice for the nearby future. Some of these spells helped her in the battle at the ball and she was really lucky to still be alive today. Diem raised her hand to give it a guess. "Is it to show us how to take down our opponent?" Diem lowered her hand.

"Is it to show us how to take down our opponent?"

"That is one use, yes Diem." Jake replied. "Have five points for Nightshade." He added, looking to see if anyone else came up with an answer. When no one else passed comment, Jake decided to continue with the explanation himself.

"However, this is Defence Against the Dark Arts. Whilst the spell is not Dark Magic in itself, it is harmful. So, for this lesson I am giving you a realistic enough example of how this spell will look in real life. If you look at the dummies once you've succeeded in the spell, you will see the effects. This may come in handy if a friend is hit with this spell, because you will be able to identify it and where possible, reduce or contain it's effects. Obviously this charm is not going to kill your friend, so if you can identify it, you'll know that they're only going to be in discomfort for a short while.

"Also, in life you might find yourself needing to conceal your identity. It has been used in the past to distort key features of a witch or wizard as necessary. So, I believe that whilst knowing it for offensive purposes, it also has defensive purposes too."

Jareth listened as the Professor spoke, genuinely intrigued. It was all so fascinating, this class had been the only one he ever enjoyed. Quietly once Jake was finished talking he went over to his own dummy, readying himself before thinking of the desired affect. While he didn't know when he was going to use it, it was a good spell to know it and was glad Jake was teaching it.

Taking up his position he aimed his wand at the dummys' head, thinking of the spell and casting it. Watching happily satisfied as he hit it almost square in the face, he was bad at all classes but DADA was his best one by a mile. If he had attended enough classes last year he could of passed. "How long do the affects last?" he enquired of the Professor, raising his hand and remembering his manners.

Apollo watched as his fellow Head Girl answered a question and got points for Nightshade, he mentally applauded her for that. He continued to listen to Jake and when Jake was finished Apollo immediately went to one of the dummies and raised his wand. He concentrated on the spell at hand and hit the dummy right in the head, he watched as his spell was successful and heard someone else ask a question, now that he was thinking about it, he wondered the same thing.

PostSubject: Re: DADA Lesson 1 – Years 6 & 7   DADA Lesson 1 – Years 6 & 7 EmptyFri Sep 26, 2014 2:56 am

Jake had been ready to start giving out advice to those who were attempting the spell when another question came. Though unlike the others, this question was... redundant.

"How long do the affects last?"

Turning his attention to Jareth, Jake paused to think of an answer that would be adequate. "As my mom says quite often when asked how long things will take, 'how long is a piece of string?'" Jake replied to the boy, a small smile playing on his lips. "As with all magic, Jareth it depends on intent, severity, concentration, damage and damage limitation.

"If I cast the spell on you and began to walk away, with distance it would ease up. Not heal, but intensity will diminish. If it was an accident it's likely to be less severe and fade quickly. The larger the area of the spell, likely the longer it will last. And obviously, if you make steps to cure the area affected, it will be a problem for less time. So, in conclusion, there is no set time to the spell, just like others."

With that Jake turned to the class. "Everyone please take out their notebooks and study the area that has been affected by the spells cast. When you're happy you've seen enough, you may leave. Homework for this week will be an essay on the spell. Advantages, disadvantages. Uses of the spell. And an opinion on the spell too. And with that, I'll see you all next week unless you have any more questions."

Thana couldn't help but let a ghost of a smile touch her lips as Professor Jake answered Jareth's question. It wasn't really a useful question, but knowing Jareth it was to be expected. Sometimes she could slap him for his stupidity, and often did.

Everyone please take out their notebooks and study the area that has been affected by the spells cast.
Thana did as she was instructed, picking up her notebook and walking past Apollo to return to her dummy. Honestly she was slightly jealous, clearly he was very good at DADA, he had aimed for the head and got a brilliant shot. Happy for him she went to her own dummy and recorded her results, the chest area had indeed swollen and had become misshapen. Writing down what she saw she also wrote a note about the homework, before making sure she got everything down about her results.

Once she was happy she got everything she closed her notebook and tucked her quill in the side. In practical situations she used a quill that she had modified and simply put an ink refill for a normal muggle pen in instead of using messy ink all the time. Quietly saying a goodbye to the Professor she went and stood at the back of the class, picking up her bag and waiting for Apollo.

Aragorn did as he was told and collected his notebook, writing down the results of his spell. It hadn't been an accurate spell by any means, but it was enough for him. The area had swollen which was exactly what he wanted. Writing his results he smiled, watching out of the corner of his eye his target. There was definitely a connection between her and the Head Boy, something he found interesting.

Finishing up writing he nodded to the Professor, "Bye Jake." he said, picking his bag up from the back of the class and walking out. Passing his target he nodded to her, "Semele" he acknowledged to his tutor and target. She simply nodded back, satisfied he walked out.

Jareth watched as his 'sister' had another shot and listened as Jake answered his question, he couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed. Now he thought about it he realised it was a question he should of known not to ask. "Thankyou Jake." he told the Professor before attempting the spell for himself. Aiming his wand and thinking about the desired affect, then cast.

The results were quite good, he hit the head perfectly and within seconds it started swelling and disforming. Happy with his results he cast another spell just for good measure, hitting the face again. Then he walked over and got his notebook, and recorded his results. Smiling because he knew he had done better than his sister. He then spoke to his Professor, "Bye Jake" Jareth said, once he was sure he had gotten everything. Then walked to the back of the class to pick up his bag, "Seeya Sis" he smirked to Thana before ducking a friendly punch and going to the door and leaving the class.
