| With spring in full flow and summer on the horizon, Jake was counting down the days until he'd have to find something to do with himself. With Azalea gone, it meant a lot of free time over the summer, but somehow, he was going to make it a summer not to be forgotten.
Taking out a piece of chalk, Jake carefully wrote the subject for that day on the board. "Diminuendo." Turning from the board, Jake moved to the front of his desk and leant against it. Only a few more hours and the term would be over, he told himself, letting out a soft sigh.

| Gina reached up, rubbing her eyes beneath her glasses as she climbed the stairs to Defence Against the Dark Arts. For most of the year she'd avoided classes, because quite frankly she couldn't be bothered to spend time with these classes. But she'd had a talk from one of the older students, telling her she should at least try.
With that in mind, Georgina pushed the door open, noticing the room was empty. Great, she thought to herself, moving towards the back of the classroom, Gina dropped her bag on the floor and leant against the wall. "Professor Newbury." She acknowledged softly, waiting for others to join them. |

| Cassidy always enjoyed DADA, even if at times she couldn't get the hang of the spells. But Jake was a good teacher, and always helpful and nice when she had trouble, so she wasn't hesitant to ask questions or to show up to the class. She walked through the door "Hey Jake," she smiled, leaving her bag at the door. She noted the Hufflepuff already there "Hey... Georgina isn't it?" she wasn't familiar with the girl. | |

| Lucy was happy to get back into the swing of classes. She preferred being occupied with things rather than idle, so naturally, she had a skip in her step as she made her way to one of her favourite classes, DADA. She walked in through the door, dropping her bag to the floor and grinned "Hello Jake," she said in her naturally optimistic tone. | |

| Alyson liked attending Jake's classes, she remembers attending his flying lessons before he took on the role of DADA Professor. She still didn't know why but she didn't mind it really. The Gryffindor made her way inside and looked around to see familiar faces, she took a seat and waited for Jake to start his class. | |

| As four witches entered the room, Jake replied to each of their greetings with a soft 'hello'. It was nice to see a new face, even if it was so late in the year, but Jake didn't get overly friendly because that would likely be weird. The last witch to enter, Alyson, took up a seat on the floor, allowing Jake a small smile.
"You don't have to sit on the floor, Alyson, we'll be starting soon enough." Jake told the witch, standing up from his desk and checking his watch. "Okay ladies, today we will be studying Diminuendo. Does anyone know anything about the spell? An answer each, if you will?" Jake told the class, looking around for answers.
OOC: Please note there are no desks or chairs in Jake's class. Next time I will not be awarding points for those who don't read the opening/work with prior knowledge of the class. |

| She listened as Jake posed the question of 'Diminuendo'. Of course, she had read the book, she'd begun to study quite extensively "Diminuendo is a spell used to shrink the target you cast it at," she answered. She could have rattled on about it, she had the tendency to remember large chunks of information as her sister did, but saved the rest for others to answer, as Jake had instructed. | |

| Cassidy listened as Jake asked the question about Dimuendo, and listened as Lucy, the Slytherin prefect, explained its function. She thought back to what she remembered the spell was, and it's effects, and raised her hand "It produces a white light," she said. It was all she could think of adding, really. She wasn't sure of anything else. | |

| "Hey... Georgina isn't it?"
"It's Gina." The Hufflepuff replied, looking the Gryffindor over, she was cute, in a way. Ginger hair had always been alluring, and the freckles. A small smile touched Gina's lips at the ideas in her head before she realised what she was doing and quickly shut it down. "I'm sorry, I don't know who you are."
But before that could go any further, the professor was talking, and Gina reluctantly turned her attention to the front of the room.
Gina listened as the others in the class began to play the cat and mouse game of earning house points. Most professors were easy to read, and the overly happy Defence Against the Dark Arts professor was known for giving out points easily.
As the two girls finished their ideas on the spell at hand, Gina cleared her throat before speaking. "The wand movement for Diminuendo is to simply point at your target, so it would be amongst the relatively easy spells in the magical world." Gina supplied. |

| Jake listened to the three answers given, smiling to each witch in turn as they gave their answers, which were all correct. Even the Hufflepuff had been right in the idea of this being one of the easier spells seeing as there wasn't a complex wand movement. "Very good ladies. Take five points for your answers!" Jake congratulated them, pausing for a moment to allow the information to sink in.
"Now, for today, we have moving dummies to practice this on. I'm quite sure all of you would be capable of casting on stationery targets, so I thought I'd make it just a little bit harder. Don't panic if you don't get it first time, the idea is to learn about your capabilities. The dummies will grow back to the normal size after five seconds, so you can have more than one go. When you're ready, please step up to the areas, denoted by the chalk lines on the floor and give it a go." Jake explained, waving them off to their different areas to have a go. |

| Merlin's baggy Y fronts was she going to be late for every class today? Bugger it, at least she showed up, it wasn't like Louise skipped lessons. She slid in through the door seeing a Hufflepuff she didn't recognize explaining a wand movement. Louise inwardly groaned at her own tardiness but kept quiet to one side till the girl and Jake had finished talking before apologizing for being late. | |

| As Louise entered the room, Jake gave the witch a smile. The Slytherin always worked hard in his lessons, and despite her lateness, Jake was glad to see her. "Hello, Louise!" Jake greeted before motioning to the dummies around the room. "We're studying the Diminuendo Spell today, if you need any pointers, let me know."
With that, Jake waved her off to a free dummy, hoping the witch knew where to begin, though he didn't mind explaining further if he needed to. |

| She listened to what their lesson was going to be about and was glad for the challenge. Not a lot of Professors will challenge their students that much because they didn't know what the students can handle which is why she loved coming here, for the experience of the challenge. Alyson walked over to a dummy and spoke the words. "Diminuendo" it missed. She was shocked, she never missed once in her life. Alyson cleared her throat and steadied her wand. "Diminuendo" she spoke again and this time the dummy shrinked. "Finally" she mumbled. | |

| Skye entered the class nervously, he was late, but he had a note! The boy just hoped the note from the Hospital Wing would count. He had to get a small... injury healed. Skye walked immediately to Jake, "Professor? Uh, I'm sorry I'm late, but I was in the Hospital Wing, I have a note!" He handed the prof a sealed roll of parchment, and waited for Jake's instructions. As he waited, the boy observed all the other students, and gave a small wave to Louise. | |

Jake hadn't noticed the door open, but at the signs of Skye entering the classroom, Jake gave the boy a warm smile, encouraging, in a way. The note Jake took and put on his desk, he wasn't overly bothered why the boy was late, he'd apologised and that was more than enough. "It's okay, Skye, I know you're not usually late." Jake told the boy before motioning to the dummies.
"We're studying Diminuendo today. It's a spell to make objects smaller. We have moving targets as a challenge. If you have a go, I'll come around and let you know if you can improve in anyway! Or, if you're great, I'll give you something extra!" He told the boy with a small wink before waving him off to have a go. |

| Skye smiled; Jake was always so nice to him. If only Skye was better at DADA and more of a "guy". Whatever, Skye thought, I'll just try my best Taking a moment to see what everyone else was doing, Skye approached a dummy. "Diminuendo!" Skye tried to put power behind it, but not too much power... The result, was a half shrunk dummy. It fell over. With one leg, both its arms, and half its head shrunk, Skye couldn't help but giggle at least a little bit. "Oops," he whispered. He tried again on another dummy, and this time got the entire thing to shrink, but then it didn't stay shrunk. He was smiling at his success when the dummy shook a tiny bit and grew again! Skye growled a little bit, and wondered what he was doing wrong. | |

| Gina had stood by whilst everyone seemed to hurry to have a go. The Hufflepuff waited to see the success of the students, and Merlin was she surrounded by some of the lamest kids ever. With a sigh, the witch took out her wand, her hard thoughts were never said outwardly, mainly because they originated from some unexplained anger. There was no point taking ridiculous anger out on others.
Moving next to her fellow Hufflepuff, Gina watched for a moment more, noting his frustration as it grew again. "Professor Newbury charmed them to grow so you could keep having a go at shrinking them." The witch explained to the boy, hoping he would see it wasn't him that was doing wrong.
Extracting her wand, Gina paused for a moment, this was not going to be easy, coming from a Muggle background had made everything so difficult, and she simply wasn't very good at magic. Readying herself in the sideways stance that she had managed to perfect, Gina watched the dummy moving. Professor Newbury couldn't have made this static, could he? "Diminuendo!" The Hufflepuff cried, trying to get the movement right. It worked... well, to say it worked would have been ridiculous. Gina had managed the spell, but it had gone bouncing off the wall and around the room until it finally hit Professor Newbury's desk.
"Oh..." Gina managed, her eyes growing wide as she looked to the professor, hoping he wasn't going to kill her. |

| Louise nodded at the instruction and took her spot near a dummy to practice on. It took a while to remember what the spell did and how to pronounce it,it took quite a few tries to pronounce it just right and she only managed to shrink the head of her dummy. Well it would give her an opening for another spell in a dual she supposed. She tried again only managing to shrink parts not the whole. Getting frustrated she jabbed her wand at the dummy and called out the spell again and watched it drop on the floor about the size of a small toy running about the floor in a panic. She picked it up by the head amused watching it give up and just wave it's arms. | |

| Skye smiled at his fellow house mate. When her spell bounced around the room he dropped to the ground trying to dodge it. Skye looked up an saw the girls worried expression. He followed her eyes to the Prof's much smaller desk. Imagining what Jake would look like sitting at it made Skye giggle. Then he reassured the girl. "I'm sure the Prof won't be too mad, he's pretty cool!" Jake had always been nice to Skye.
After trying the spell again, and failing, again, Skye looked around the room. He saw Louise holding her shrink dummy by the head, and it's little arms waving all over and broke down laughing. He gave Louise a thumbs up, and debated going back to trying the spell. It just wasn't working for him. | |

| Tristan was beginning to make being late a habit. She walked into her 3rd late class of the day. She heard the topic was Diminuendo and giggled. She took out her wand, pointed it at a dummy across the room and said the spell. She watched as the dummy got smaller and smiled victoriously. | |

| Jake watched each student attempt the spell, each really giving it a go. He was glad, this spell was quite useful, even if it didn't always appear so. As another student entered, without so much as an apology, Jake bristled.
"Welcome to the lesson, Miss Lycanthe. Your lateness isn't going to go unpunished, nor your lack of manners. Five points from Slytherin." Jake told the witch. He'd never been grateful for lack of manners, and it showed now.
"Everyone else, you're doing wonderfully. Skye, your dummy will regrow, keep trying!" The professor told the boy with a warm smile. It was in that moment that a spell shot across the front of him and hit his desk, shrinking both it and everything on top of it. A laugh left Jake as the witch who'd cast the spell looked horrified. It was amusing really, and he wasn't at all mad! "A correct demonstration, Georgina, now try on the dummy!" He encouraged. |

| Cassidy watched as the others began to attempt the spell and drew her wand to try her hand at it. She walked over to a dummy, aiming her wand at it "Diminuendo" she cast. The dummy gradually began to shrink, and she was a little surprised it had worked the first time. She smiled at her achievement, waiting for the dummy to regrow before she tried again, successfully. | |

| Lucy listened to the instructions given and when given the okay, instantly went to her dummy to give the spell a go. She aimed her wand, confidently pronouncing the spell "Dimminuendo". It was shot straight at the dummy's chest, and unsurprisingly, she got the spell correct on the first go. She always was prideful in her talent when it came to spell casting. The dummy began to re-grow, and she repeated it again, and again, successful with each hit. | |

| Tristan was not amused with the fact of losing house points. She had done the spell right! Wasnt that supposed to earn points? She kept shooting the spell at the target dummies across the room. Causing each one to become miniscule. "Professor? Am I doing this corectly?" She asked wanting to earn her points back. | |

| "A correct demonstration, Georgina, now try on the dummy!"
"Sorry professor!" Gina told the professor once more before looking back at her dummy and adjusting her classes. Of course, she would be the one that completely messed this up and shrunk the professor's desk. She couldn't have just got this right, could she? The witch was rather angry with herself, but as she was instructed, she would try to get the dummy this time.
Pointing her wand at the dummy once more, Gina tried to find the pattern in it's movements, her hand moving in time with the dummy. There wasn't one, of course, so the witch simply went for a spot and hoped it would work this time. "Dimminuendo!" The witch called out again, hoping this time she would get it right.
The effects, at least, caught the dummy, and made a very slight difference. It shrunk, as it was supposed to, but not nearly enough to be effective. But despite all of that, Gina let out a smile. It was a start, and though she knew she wasn't perfect, it was most definitely a starting point. |
